Click and drag on trackpad doesn't move after reaching edges of trackpad
cn flag

There is a feature in Windows which helps in dragging when you reach the end of the touchpad. Like if you are dragging a folder in Ubuntu if you reach the edge of the touchpad the dragging just stops, whereas in Windows it continues to move on its own even after reaching the edge of the touchpad.

I was wondering whether there was a similar feature or a third-party app for Ubuntu that does this.

Ubuntu 20.04 auto connect bluetooth sound devices
in flag

I am using Ubuntu 20.04 on a Lenovo Flex 14. I have several bluetooth sound devices. All connect and play. However I must connect them manually each time despite all being trusted devices. Then I have to go to PAVU to shut off the laptop speaker and any external monitor sound. Is there some way to have these devices connect automatically?

Ubuntu 20.04.3 Wi-Fi stopped working after update to Linux 5.13
kp flag

My laptop runs Ubuntu 20.04.3, and I had to make adjustments to get it to recognize the Wi-Fi adapter. After rebooting my laptop, the Wi-Fi and ethernet stopped being recognized by the computer.

This post suggests it was an automatic update to Linux 5.13 which made the Wi-Fi stop working.

Without internet access, how can I back down from the packages which were auto-installed (Jan 26)?

I am running Ubuntu 21.10/Gnome. I was browsing packages using Synaptic when I discovered libmp3splt. I selected to install it when I got a dialog showing me all the packages (e.g., alsa-base, linux-sound-base, ubuntu-desktop, ubuntu-desktop-minimal, and ubuntu-gnome-desktop) that will be removed in order to install it.

Reading the description of libmp3splt gives me no clue as to WHY these packages wi ...

How to reset default top bar style

Today I was tinkering my Ubuntu 21.10. Looking for a way to configure my top panel, I installed the extensions Unite and Shell Configurator. All was fine until I removed Unite after realizing that it doesn't do what want to do — my top bar became too large.

Using sed with a variable inside double quote
kr flag

I have a file input.xml which contains a line: <exciton lambda="1" fix="hole"/>

in that line I want to replace 1 with 2 but I can't use just 1 as key word since there are other instances of "1" in the same file so I have to use the keyword lambda="1"

I am trying to use sed command as below:

sed -i "s/lambda="1"/lambda="$value"/g" input.xml

But it's not working, can anybody please help.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
