Differences in the boot_command between Ubuntu Server 21.10 and 20.04

Is there anyway to troubleshoot the boot_command between the various versions of Ubuntu servers? I spend hours searching google and finding vast differences in way people write the boot command.

I am using packer to create VM's for virtualbox. My current boot command looks like

I can't install consistent versions of vnstat
in flag

I operate several leased VPS servers in Europe, Middle East and US. Recently, I have installed vnstat to monitor my network connections volume and speed. The most recent version of vnstat is 2.6, which I like, but a few of my servers download and installed 1.15, 1.16 or 1.17. Attempts to upgrade vnstat on these units always gives me 'newest version installed.' which is not true. I operate Ubuntu 20 ...

Dell Laptop with a recently installed Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS with HWE-kernel. Laptop has a Intell integrated GPU and an nVidia discrete GPU.

On install from Live USB, I said "yes" to install any proprietary drivers, which in turn created a MOK signature for SecureBoot.

But as far as I am aware, it is not using any nVidia proprietary drivers and used nouveau open source drivers, like this screenshot belo ...

Windows Partition Visible in Ubuntu But Not Visible in Bios or Grub

I use a dual-boot Ubuntu 20.04 and Windows 10 machine. However, after a recent Timeshift rollback of my Ubuntu installation. My windows 10 partition disappeared in both grub and bios. However, I can still use Nautilus to open the drive and view its files (Nautilius will -not- mount the drive on the left-hand side). UEFI, secure boot disabled, fast boot disabled.

I've tried: sudo os-prober &

How to hide output of first command when using the || operator and exit?
cn flag

This hides output from the first command, and prints Oops to stderr if it fails. So far, so good.

#!/usr/bin/env bash
invalid_command > /dev/null 2>&1 || >&2 echo "Oops"
echo hi

That outputs this:

Oops
hi

But I need to exit as well as printing a message if the first command failed. So I tried using parenthesis.

#!/usr/bin/env bash

how do I install "waterfox-G4.0.6.en-US.linux-x86_64.tar.bz2" on Ubuntu 22.04 ? I have seen no good answers to many very similar questions

TMG

I have downloaded "waterfox-G4.0.6.en-US.linux-x86_64.tar.bz2" to my usual Downloads directory on a laptop that was running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. That machine has been upgraded with Ubuntu 20.04 and then 22.04. So I still want to install the Waterfox G4.0.6 -- the package has not changed at all in the day or so it took me to make Ubuntu reasonably current.

I guess what puzzles me most is how a "pac ...

Frequent Complete Freezes On 20.04

Over the last few days, for no reason I can tell (no recent big updates), I've been experiencing frequent instances of complete system freezes. The mouse won't move, no key combinations trigger, and cannot reboot with Alt+SyReq either. The only way to do anything is to hold down the power button until it powers off. After rebooting it freezes again, sometimes after many hours, sometimes after only a few ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
