Ubuntu 21.10 not shutting down properly
ru flag

How can I work out why my laptop has stopped shutting down properly? If you select "power off" everything appears to shut down, but the fan keeps spinning, and never ends unless you long hold down the power button or unplug the charger and let the power run out.

If you flip the screen down to suspend, it also goes blank and completely unresponsive. This behaviour has been happening for about tw ...

Warnings about invalid options names that occur between valid option names
jp flag

I have written the following bash piece, but need to implement something a bit more complicated.

The task is to detect an invalid option only if it happens between known options.

For instance, the following myfunc -v -w --vlt "Ubuntu" would print

Unknown option -w

But myfunc -v --vlt -w "Ubuntu" would not print any warning message because -w occurs after the known non-options arguments.

The code would ...

TTY 1 opens everytime I want to login on ubuntu 21.10 with Gnome 40
my flag

Recently a weird thing is happening, every time I try to login into my user account, ubuntu opens something similar to a TTY, but it is not exactly a TTY.

So what exactly happens is, I boot up my system, the login screen prompts and I click on the user name I want to login to. Once I click on the username it opens a login prompt but instead of opening a GUI prompt, it opens a TTY-like CLI prompt. ...

Video gets choppy and stuck in full screen mode when streaming videos
cn flag

Have an interesting problem on my hands. When streaming videos in full-screen on netflix in either chromium or firefox, after a while (about 20-30 minutes in) the video will get choppy every 2 minutes or so. I also cannot exit full screen video mode using any of the standard techniques (Esc, f11, alt+tab, alt+esc, Ctl+Alt+Del short or long press). I literally have to hard boot to escape the scenario. Loading unclaimed graphic card in Ubuntu 21.10 on iMac 2011

On an iMac 21'' Mid 2011 my AMD GPU seems to have gone bad and not able to boot macOS, I am now booted into an Ubuntu 21.10 usb with persistent filesystem and can see both the cards in terminal. The question is how to load the Intel card instead of current llvm used by Ubuntu, I have tried the GRUB modeset options for both AMD and Intel but they do not work and result in black screen, probably because  ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
