Internal Monitor Not Detected Ubuntu 21.10 Acer Nitro 5
cn flag

I have an Acer Nitro 5 and I recently installed Ubuntu 21.10. I noticed a bit of lag when I tried semi-intensive stuff, then realized I was running the Intel Integrated Graphics. I tried multiple steps to try to get Nvidia as the default, and I think I did, but the problem now is my 2nd monitor won't turn on. When I go into the installation media on the USB, it works as expected. But when I return to my ...

I have the same issue which is described here, but for a Huion h640p tablet instead of the wacom one: Only half of Wacom Intuos tablet area maps to entire screen horizontally

The width x height of my tablet is 65534 x 32767.
But xsetwacom --get "<tablet ID> Area shows 32767 x 32767, and only the left half of the tablet is mapped to the whole of my screen. The problem persists with external ...

Remote access to xubuntu stops when its screen is locked
cn flag
2.1

I access a desktop (xubuntu 20.04) remotely from another desktop (ubuntu 21.04) using VNC protocol of Remmina.

I have installed vino in xubuntu to enable it for remote access.

Remote access to xubuntu works fine when that computer is unlocked, and stops working when it is locked.

Could you please tell me a way out ?

Thanks

Print A to Z according to user's input: 1=A, 2=B, etc
pr flag

I want to print characters from A to Z depending on the user's input. If the input is 1 then print A, if the input is 2 then print B, and so on.

I tried using a for loop as below, but wasn't able to achieve what I want.

for i in {a..z}
do
  echo $i
done

How can I use a loop or another approach to get the expected output?

How to select custom waiting time before putting screen to sleep in Mate Power Management?
mz flag

Simple and probably very dumb question, but I'm very new to Linux and I don't really know where to look for something like this

I'm trying to set a custom wait/idle time before putting the screen to sleep. I wanted to put around 2/3 minutes of waiting time whoever the lowest preset there is, is 5

While clicking the help button I can see there is (or use to be) a way to set it up with sliders which c ...

Execute Nautilus script with key combination

I used the method described here to run custom scripts using a keyboard shortcut in Nautilus, which consists of dropping the script in ~/.local/share/nautilus/scripts and editing the file ~/.config/nautilus/scripts-accels to include the line <shortcut> <script_filename>.

It works, but only with standalone keys, even though the combination appears under scripts in the context menu when  ...

Document Viewer (Evince) fails to open hyperlinks in a PDF document
cn flag

While viewing a PDF document in evince, clicking on a hyperlink (a web link in this case) causes the cursor to change to a rotating 'busy' symbol and the browser is not launched. Using dmesg to view errors, I see the errors below. This began about a month ago. I'm not aware I have changed anything in my configuration. Ubuntu 21.10 fully updated. Brave browser (1.32.113) is default.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
