Using Python 3.9 and uninstalling an older version of PIL and replacing with the most current version
us flag

I have downloaded Python 3.9 and the latest version of PIP or so I thought. I am trying to work with PIL, but I keep getting invalid syntax error. I did some research to uninstall PIL and reinstall with the latest, but something must have changed with the newest versions, because every suggestion I read and tried didn't work.

Convert exixting Ubuntu 20.04 disk to UEFI
th flag

I use Ubuntu 20.04 as my only system in my laptop. Ubuntu resides on an SSD disk booting in legacy mode (i.e. BIOS, or MBR mode).
I have now bought a new laptop with Windows 10 pre-installed which of course boots in UEFI mode.
Since my new laptop has a slot for a second SATA disk, I want to keep the Windows 10 system and exploit the second slot to boot my old SSD Ubuntu disk from there, thus having a dual ...

Unable to lock screen orientation in 21.10
ru flag

I recently upgraded from 21.04 to 21.10 using the do-release-upgrade command. One minor nuisance I've encountered is the screen orientation occasionally switching from landscape to portrait when I'm moving the laptop around. In 21.04, I was able to lock the orientation easily using a button in the system menu. This button is absent in 21.10 on the same machine.

Looking for an alternative way to lock the ...

What happens to directories ommitted from a timeshift snapshot when restoring a snapshot?

I've been using timeshift for some time now and it works just fine. But as my storage started to fill up, the snapshots are getting larger. To prevent this there's one thing which I've been wondering and haven't tried yet because I'm afraid I might end up deleting my useful files.

Q: What will happen if for example I exclude ~/Downloads, ~/Pictures directories from a snapshot while creating it and la ...

I'm using Ubuntu on a laptop (with its built-in screen disabled) connected to a 3840x2160 external display.

Before sharing my screen on a video chat, I always like to switch the resolution down to 1920x1080.

I want to be able to quickly toggle the resolution of my external display between 3840x2160 and 1920x1080 via a keyboard shortcut, such as SuperPrntScrn.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
