kr flag

I have an old laptop with Win10 installed in it from factory. I have a new laptop with Ubuntu 21.04 installed from factory (with systemd-boot bootloader installed in UEFI mode). Can I put the SSD from my old laptop into the new one and boot into it? Will I have any bootloader problems? If so, How do I fix them? (I asked in askubuntu if it would break the ubuntu bootloader...)

Screen goes black occasionally except for windows

GNOME occasionally goes completely black except for the windows currently open. This happens every ~20 minutes, and is pretty annoying. After a few seconds, the screen reverts back to normal. I can't take a screenshot because I can't see the app menu...

Example: I have Chrome and Terminal open. When this happens, I cannot see the background picture, the top panel, or the taskbar. I can only see C ...

Prevent requesting all subfolders with sshfs
tr flag

I'm mounting a folder using sshfs -o ro -d user@remote:/home/user/folder /home/myuser/local_folder. I can see that there are LOOKUP requests being issued for every subfolder of the folder I am mounting. Is there some way to prevent these requests from being made? My remote folder has 100k+ subfolders. These LOOKUPs look like so:

Audio gets held up in Ubuntu 20.04
cn flag

I have this problem at random intervals where it seems the audio gets held up. For example, when I'm using Duolingo in Chrome, the sounds will suddenly not play. It goes silent for maybe about 15-30 seconds, and then suddenly all the sounds that didn't play are played at once. But the sounds never stop mid-play. It's as if they were in a line waiting to be played and the line was held up for a while, an ...

Mounting exfat drive as read/write

I have ubuntu on my pc for half year right now. However recently I got annoyed by not enough space in my folder for files(ubuntu is on small 80 gb ide drive). I was able to move files to it, change default download directory etc. The problem started, when I rebooted machine, and drive didn't mounted automa ...

I was a big fan of Microsoft OneNote for taking notes in class. I've tried to look for an option in Ubuntu. I tried Joplin and SimpleNote but none of them allows this.
Do you know any opensource option? Thanks!

Wayland with Intel Graphics results in graphical stuttering - is there a solution?
ar flag

I've been using wayland with intel 520 graphics and, for the most part, it works excellently. However, I noticed that any hardware accelerated 1080p video playback (VLC,MPV etc) causes stuttering, not just in the video, but on the entire desktop (for instance, pressing super to see programs side by side with be stuttery).

I also noticed that, unlike with XORG, when video is playing played, the gr ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
