No audio with Zoom web client running in Qt WebEngine on Kubuntu 20.04
vn flag

I have tried to run the Zoom web client in two applications built with Qt WebEngine, and in neither case could I hear any audio. One of the applications was one I built myself; the other is the Qutebrowser. This has nothing to do with my microphone or camera, but only with my computer playing the audio of other meeting participants.

In my experiments, the Zoom web client is clearly receiving audi ...

Can I upgrade from Ubuntu 20.04 Desktop to Ubuntu 21 (04/10) Server without losing data?
de flag

Edit: To clarify I mean to upgrade to either 21.04 or 21.10.

I found this question that is relevant, but the comments on the answers indicate that Ubuntu Desktop either is not uninstalled or that there is a serious risk of unintentionally removing needed packages or of outright bricking the machine. Obviously neither of these is ideal. I wondered if the problems might be resolved if the change we ...

is it possible to alias a port number?
us flag

I want to run a service on a custom port (e.g. jenkins on 8080) and I prefer to access it via browser with a name I can remember, e.g. http://localhost:jenkins which will be an alias for http://localhost:8080

  1. Is such a thing possible?
  2. If so, will it be only an HTTP thing, or all network protocols will know of this alias?
  3. Also, if (1) is true, is this feature supported on other OS (centos, windows ...

I've done: sudo apt update But when I do sudo apt upgrade, I get:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 perl-modules-5.22 : Conflicts: perl-modules

I've tried:

sudo apt-get clean

Can't sudo do-release-upgrade until I get this fixed.

How can I get Ubuntu 20.04 to restore my open windows when I log in again?
ph flag

I'm on Ubuntu 20.04, using the default desktop environment (Gnome 3, I guess?) and when I log out and back in again (or restart the computer, etc.) my open windows are gone.

How can I get Ubuntu to restore my open windows, like Mac OS does, and like other desktop environments (e. g. xfce) do on Linux?

I searched online and found this page, which says to run gnome-session-properties, and then it sh ...

How come both ubuntu server 18.04 lts and 20.04 lts install crashed?
cn flag

The deployment of ubuntu server 20.04 lts failed (idem for 18.04). It seems there is a bug in the installer. had to use ubuntu server 21.10 to get my server up and running. server config : 48G ram, 2 HDD 135Go using RAID 1, 2 CPUs. don't have the crash report though. Maybe the installer has been upgraded in 21.10 but not in 20.04 ?

How to dual boot Windows and Ubuntu on SSD and HDD?

I'm kind of new to this. I recently got an M.2 SSD for my laptop and moved windows from the HDD to the SSD with a fresh new Windows install. I am now using both the SSD and the HDD, with the SSD having windows and all programs while my HDD has my large files.
This is why I want to dual boot Ubuntu (also spanning both the SSD and HDD) by installing the "/" directory on my SSD and the "/home" director ...

Ubuntu now always starts in overview mode when logging in. How to avoid?
fr flag

Recently, Ubuntu 21.10 (Gnome 40.4.0, logging in with GNOME on Xorg) has started displaying the overview mode when I log in (normally, tapping Super achieves this). The first thing I have to do then is press Esc to return to normal.

This is the first time I have seen such behaviour, and it's unwanted. How can this be avoided?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
