Circular purple icon with white arrow inside
st flag

There is a circular purple icon with a white arrow inside that is displayed on top of some of these folders in the root folder. What does this icon mean? It's on the sbin folder, for example. Accessing LAN Machines While Connected to Proton VPN
mv flag

When I am not connected to Proton VPN I can access other devices on my local network, including the NAS I use for backups. Once I connect to Proton VPN I can no longer access anything on the LAN. Proton support says its a firewall setting but GuFw shows as disabled. I tried playing with the settings to no avail. Any help you all can offer would be greatly appreciated.

In the recent version of gnome terminal, when text is pasted into the terminal, it is initially highlighted in white.

I would like to change this paste-highlight color to something else (preferably light gray).

How can I achieve this?

I assume this can be configured in ~/.bashrc, but I may be wrong.

I bought a simple joystick, with just a 360° steering stick and a button on it, to control my PC while watching movies. First connect worked like a charm out of the box, but after shut down and start up of the computer at the next day, my ubuntu suddenly wants that I type some Numbers and hit enter on my mouse-only joystick, to connect it.

There pops up a UI Dialog with the follwing:

Pretty much everything seems to be working fine except the gnome settings application. Selecting, for instance, the "display settings" under the right top menu on the desktop does not open the settings window as it used to do. I quickly realized that gnome-control-center is not installed and I run sudo apt install gnome-control-center to install it. I got

Cannot Install Dolphin Emulator From PPA

I'm trying to run Dolphin Emulator on Kubuntu 21.04 using the recommended PPA. However, when I try to install it using sudo apt install dolphin-emu-master, I get an error about it not having a release file for 21.04/Hirsute. On the PPA, there is only a release file up to 18.04/Cosmic which is still being updated. I decide to edit the apt sources file to make it say cosmic rather than hirsute, however  ...

Remap a key combination to another combination, e.g. AltGr+C -> Ctrl+C, under Wayland

I basically want to ask this question, but for GNOME on Wayland. This means that answers involving AutoKey and xbindkeys wont work, as neither works under Wayland.

Background:

I would like to remap some keys to ultimately make better use of CapsLock.

My plan is to map CapsLock to AltGr, and then follow this to obtain vim-like keybindings. On Wayland, this remapping can be done through XKB files (see the l ...

Should I use MBR or GPT when I intend to use both Ubuntu and Windows?
us flag

I installed a new Samsung 870 EVO SATA SSD in my desktop. I want to install Ubuntu 18.04 on this SSD, so I can have Windows on my main SSD, and then Ubuntu on this SSD (effectively a dual boot machine). When I plugged it in, it asked me to initialize it as GPT or as MBR. Which one is better for Ubuntu? screenshot of Disk Management

I'm trying to get nvidia-smi back up, which was working fine until I installed cuda-toolkit. Uninstalling cuda-toolkit didn't help. How can I restore nvidia-smi output?

NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
