GRUB does not load after update, opening Windows Boot Loader instead
in flag

I just updated Ubuntu and wanted to restart my Lenovo s440.

Normally, the system goes through the GRUB loader. Now the whole system is messed up. Either, I am stuck at the Lenovo screen in the beginning or it goes straight to Windows.

In the BIOS, ubuntu is the first option. The second is the Windows boot manager.

I tried setting the EFI in Windows but although it says success, there is no change in be ...

Try Ubuntu works great, does it mean when I install it on the HDD, it will work the same way?
ca flag

I have an HP Notebook Laptop and I want to install Ubuntu on the HDD.

I bought an SSD and cloned the contents of HDD to it. The Windows OS seems to be working very well on the SSD, so I was wondering if I can install Ubuntu on the HDD for learning purposes, while having the SSD as my fall back when I need Windows.

I did not get much help from HP Support Forum, and searching a bit, I found that Ubunt ...

How to remove external disk

I first installed Ubuntu on an external drive to get familiar with it before moving it to the internal drive. So far so good but now that I moved Ubuntu on the internal drive, I cannot remove the external drive. Sounds like the EFI of the external drive is the one that is used instead of the one from the internal drive.

I tried to use boot-repair but boot-repair thinks I dont have an EFI partit ...

Download speed after last update
id flag

After the last update I noticed that my download speed is very slow. Right now it's around 15MB/s and used to be around 100MB/s.

The problem is only with wifi.

There was a bug report somewhere in 2020 on Ubuntu's Launchpad with a similar bug that after updating the download speed on the machine was very slow, around 2MB/s.

How can I fix this and what info do you need to help?

Uninstall MS Teams
in flag

I had a problem with the MS Teams app and tried to update my version via the package manager. This however led to an additional installation of MS Teams. I wanted to uninstall both applications now to clear my system.

Using sudo apt remove teams I was able to uninstall one of the installations. The other one is still being shown when I view the application screen, and I don't know how to remove it.

Huion Tablet WH1409 and Ubuntu 20.04: is there a way of making it work using the cable?

I'm not new to Ubuntu, but I am not an expert.

My tablet, HUION WH1409, is recognised by my system only when I use the wireless connection. If I use the usb cable it doesn't seem to work.

I've installed the Digimed drivers. The only issue I have is that the battery life of my tablet is really short and I can't work for more than 5 minutes before it stops working.

I'm running Ubuntu 20.04 on a Lenovo ThinkPad Carbon X1.

I have set my gnome-screenshot auto-save-directory to /home/[user]/Screenshots

But when I take a screenshot:

  • by pressing the print screen button the screenshot is still saved in ~/Pictures
  • in Terminal using gnome-screenshot -i the popup dialog still defaults to ~/Pictures

Anyone know why the auto-save-directory isn't being adhered to?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
