Using degraded feature set TCP instead of UDP for DNS server [WiFi connection]
in flag

My laptop disconnects every 5 minutes but it is always connected to the wifi, which correctly works (I can see that it works from other devices). I have tried with another browser but it is the same, in addition I have experienced the same loss of connection with a ssh file transfer.

Using the command sudo journalctl --since="-2 minutes" , just after the connection crash, I get:

How to sync crontab with fcrontab, i.e. timer-based job and time-based job
cn flag
Jay

Having 2 schedules set:

  1. Cron running every 8am 0 8 * * * myCronJob.sh
  2. Fcron running every 61 minutes: @1h1 myFcronJob.sh

They will eventually bump into each other and it will not work because in this scenario only one job can run at a time. To avoid this issue we might use a lock to allow only one job at a time, such as this code here

0 8 * * * user/bin/flock /usr/tmp/lfile.lockfile -c 'myCronJob.sh'

No matter if I use Timeshift or preinstalled Backups both recovery tools have failed me when trying to recover my system. From time to time it happens that installed updates crash my machine. It simply won't boot. Then I reach out for my Timeshift snapshots and very often the computer can't use it.

I reinstall Ubuntu from my pen drive and install Timeshift. After this is done I pick latest snapsh ...

Different scale on apps (one display)

I'm still getting used to Ubuntu (20.04) on my Lenovo ThinkPad Carbon X1 after being a Mac user for 10 years.

When setting up, I found the resolution made things far too tiny and I'm sure I changed a few things, including the scale slider (first) and then I dropped my resolution (from 3840x2160 to 1920x1080). The resolution change made everything look ok, except Telegram, which I think is still b ...

How can I convert text in an Emacs buffer, to a .odt file, from there usable by LibreOffice?
us flag

Assume I've got an ordinary text file in an Emacs buffer. I want to convert it to a .odt file, possibly adding italics and/or boldface characters. From lisp I can do anything Emacs can do; also, I can pass bash commands to a bash window, as needed. Once I've created the .odt version I assume LibreOffice can be used without too much aggravation. How do you suggest I proceed?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
