SQUID Ubuntu - Can you connect to a Squid proxy from another network
bd flag

I've been playing with Squid in Ubuntu to set up a proxy server I can use when I'm out of the country.

I was able to set it up so that any device in the proxy's network can connect through it, but realised that it might be limited to just that.

So, Is it possible to connect to the squid proxy from another network? If so, what should I do/change?

Any suggestion/advice is appreciated

Thank you

How to plug old external SSD with Ubuntu installed into new laptop

I am switching to a new laptop and I want to use my old Ubuntu 20.04 installation which is on an external SSD, to save the time of reinstallation and file transfer. How can I achieve this? On Ubuntu Mate 20.10 for about a week after upgrading from Ubuntu Mate 20.04.2. Upgraded from 20.04 LTS due to multiple issues with programs following a series of computer freezes while using FireFox 89, as some web sites (& plugins?) are very memory intensive.

All issues resolved thanks to distribution upgrade to 20.10. Then got a notice that 20.10 was at end of life cycle.

Bad aliasing for red

I am using Ubuntu 18.4, XFCE, and a new monitor.

While the monitor seems to work fine in windows, and in Linux for most purposes, it does something that I do not understand with the anti-aliasing for red, not just fonts, but red in general.

For example, here all the circles should be similarly round, but the red one has more the shape of a plus + symbol, and is less round. Anti-aliasing settings  ...

Upgraded Ubuntu to 20.04, now external HDD won't mount
aw flag

I upgraded my PC to 20.04 and am finding that I can't mount my external HDD (ext4 formatted) anymore. It doesn't matter if I choose any of the directories created under /dev/disk/by-*/*part1 or /dev/sdb1 (it shows as that in the output of fdisk -l).

In journalctl I always just get to see:

Bluetooth not working in Ubuntu 20.04

I recently built a new desktop PC and I've been having trouble getting bluetooth working. Previously it was running, but not pairing to headphones. Occasionally it did pair but the sound was choppy, and it would not remember the device and so pairing was very inconsistent. In trying to fix it today I updated bluez and blueman and now I have a new problem; bluetooth won't start at all.

I have many different calendars (both remote and local) synced in my gnome calendar. I'm trying to get all of today's events, sort through the unimportant ones and run scripts accordingly (example: run script "do not disturb [on] during meetings").

I could tediously get all of them individually, yes, but if they are already loaded and synced through the gnome calendar, why not run a local query. Som ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
