Mounting QNAP folder via NFS: mount.nfs: access denied by server while mounting
th flag

I'm sure this question has been asked before in different ways, but my difference is that everything was working beautifully for me before upgrading my QNAP to the QTS 4.5.5.715 firmware. I'm not getting any help from the QNAP folks, so I thought I'd try my luck here.

  • I'm running Ubuntu 20.04.
  • Both the QNAP TS-453D and the Ubuntu desktop are hardwired to the router.
  • nfs-common is installed on Ubuntu

Without Network Manager - why does dhclient work, but configuration in /etc/network/interface does not?
gn flag

I'm running Ubuntu 21.04 with Network Manager disabled because it doesn't support some of the features required by Wi-Fi 6E. I'm performing the manual configuration based on this article.

When starting the system, the network interfaces do not obtain an IPv4 address with DHCP. The system has two interface, enp0s31f6 and wlp2s0, which are Ethernet and Wi-Fi respectively.

VMs (virt-manager) are slow on 21.04 but not 20.04
us flag

On Ubuntu 21.04, VMs run slow. I used Ubuntu 21.04 on both host and guest and the VMs were very slow, even on moving the windows with the mouse. I had to go back to Ubuntu 20.04 where they work fine.

I use virt-manager by the way, installed through sudo apt-get install -y virt-manager, I did not change any VM configurations, I simply created a new one and installed.

Proper way to disable Evolution services when it's purged already
kp flag

Though I have gone through quite a few threads on AskUbuntu, I couldn't find a proper way to disable these Evolution services, especially when Evolution is purged from the system already, in Ubuntu MATE 21.04.

These services are not listed under systemctl list-unit-files --type=service, so I can't use sudo systemctl mask.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
