GRUB works differently depending on whether one boots from sda or sdb?

Configuration:

Two HDDs. Named sda and sdb.

Original situation:

Ubuntu on sda. The other disk (sdb) is empty.

Due to GRUB inferring some boot sector as containing Windows 10, then my GRUB window shows Ubuntu and Windows (on /dev/sda1). See earlier discussion:

I would like to add a directory to my path, in my IBM server running Ubuntu 22.04. I would like to install the genome assembly software, SuperNova-2.1.1 by 10x genomics. In order to start using their supernova command, I must add the directory to my path. The path was added using the following command:

export PATH=/opt/supernova-2.1.1:$PATH

They have also suggested adding the path to .bashrc, wh ...

Signing Virtualbox modules with EFI Secure Boot enabled

I have a system (22.04.1 LTS) with an Nvidia card and with EFI secure boot enabled.

Virtualbox refuses to run a VM and claims that "if the system has EFI Secure Boot enabled you may also need to sign the kernel modules (vboxdrv, vboxnetflt, vboxnetapd, vboxpci)"

How do I sign those modules?

Following the instructions in Kolourpaint missing all icons on Ubuntu 20.10 after upgrading to Xubuntu 22.04.1 I do now have icons in kolourpaint, but they are the Breeze theme which I actively dislike (monochromatic, flat and unintuitive). How do I change it to use elementary, oxygen or indeed any of the other actually usable icon themes?

In the Ubuntu version running in WSL2 (on Windows 11), how do you change the default $PATH for the root user? I've tried adding the following lines to the root user's ".profile" script:

Fn buttons are not working after suspend

I'm using Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS on my Asus TUF A15 FA507RE (Ryzen 7 6800h), after suspend Fn buttons are not working, except Fn+F1(sound on/off). After reboot it works, but after suspend not. Already tried combinations: Fn+Esc, Fn+F1, etc. Nothing helps. Laptop is using dual boot with Windows 11 Home.

lsblk manual page says that command reads from /run/udev/data/ and /sys/bus/usb/device/* directory files to display an info to the user.

I have Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS on core i7, 32GB RAM, GeForce RTX2080Ti machine and all video calls are terrible - I am not able to have a video call with Slack, Google Meet or Zoom. I'm trying to install Ubuntu on my Asus Vivobook S14 hard drive. Everything goes well but each time (I tried many times, dual booting then deleting Windows and emptying the disk), after a while Ubuntu crashes, the icons turn gray and I have errors of input/output. I can't do anything anymore, I have to completely shutdown my laptot.

I recently connected a pen-drive after many years. When I opened my pen-drive it showed me 'no valid superblock found'. I did some google and tried to fix it.

I tried to use backup superblocks to main superblock by testdisk (if that's a thing or at-least what i think i did) :)

It became worse, at first my pen-drive was at-least detected by OS and now it does not.

lost folders cutting pasting to windows

I was cutting and pasting several folders from Ubuntu to a folder I created in the windows 7 partition on the same computer. I left the computer for an hour or so and it was in standby when i came back to it. The folders I was copying are gone from my home folder in Ubuntu and not in the new folder on windows. I've tried searching rubbish bins and temp folders on both systems, but cant find the missing  ...

I have trawled though numerous posts around issues installing Ubuntu on my Hp Envy laptop. Unfortunately, seems nobody has been able to do it so far. P.S I have tried almost everything on BIOS such as disabling TPM, SecureBoot etc... but no luck. (dont wont Virtual Machine install). In Windows as Adobe Reader provides a way by which we can highlight the given text by just selecting the text. Is there any way to do same in evince in Linux?

UPD: I want to ask is there any auto highlight property present in Evince. Instead of using Ctrl+H etc.

22.10 boot with kernel 5.19.0-31-generic hangs

When I try to boot the 5.19.0-31-generic kernel the system hangs after displaying the following lines on the screen

How to make a read-only disk writable?

I mounted an image file (raw, ext4) as a disk but however I had changed the "Permissions" of the disk (to "create and delete files", etc), it was read-only.

Git installed but still gets "command not found"

When I run git which, nothing happens. And when I run git --version, nothing happens either. Which would suggest that git is not installed on the server.

Yet, when I try to install git with apt install git, the response is
