Unreliable graphics behavior after upgrade to Ubuntu 22.04

I've been stumped by this all week and am finally giving up on antisocial lone-debugging. Hopefully someone can help me make sense of this behavior! I originally made a bug in the nvidia-graphics-drivers-535 component (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-535/+bug/2031198) but after more experimentation, I'm not convinced that's the right place for the bug any more.

Trying to configure Ubuntu 23.04 so that I can remote login and manage my Ubuntu desktop from a Windows 11 PC using RDP.

I am getting authentication errors when I try to login from windows via RDP.

I am 100% certain I am typing the password correctly. I have verified the account works properly by logging into it directly.

The user is not logged in on any device.

How do I install a tools package with no internet or USB?

This is a build environment for custom hardware (NXP processor). There is Ethernet access only. Build/deploy sequence is:

  1. log in to dev server
  2. bring up docker to build under Ubuntu 20.04 (using flex_builder)
  3. run build
  4. exit docker
  5. SCP build to custom hardware for test

Custom package (under test) does not have gcc or enough memory to run it on the target HW, and the docker container cannot run the buil ...

Brightness slider is not showing beneath the sound slider in the topbar

I first installed ubuntu 20, brightness or anything relateted to brightness was not working, (I tried installing brightness controller, install nvidia drivers and tried xander command too. The keyboard keys f4 and f5 is not working as well)

I then also upgraded the ubuntu to 22.04.3 LTS hoping it would fix it nothing worked.

black screen and blinking carrot after trying to install gnome

I was trying to install GNOME on Ubuntu Focal. However, after a reboot I'm getting a black screen with blinking carrot. I did the following (probably dumb) steps te get to this point.

  1. I ran sudo apt-get update followed by sudo apt install ubuntu-gnome-desktop
  2. Rebooted, saw no changes and removed with sudo apt remove ubuntu-gnome-desktop
  3. Ran sudo apt install gnome-session gdm3 instead

Cant launch programs like chromium browser or steam

When I try to lauch chromium through the terminal, nothing happens. No feedback at all, just blank. When I try to launch it through the gui, I can see it loading in the top left corner but after a while it disappears but nothing launches. The same thing happens with steam and firefox. I have tried reinstalling chromium and steam yet nothing changes.

Ubuntu 22.04 shows text boot messages then the desktop won't load after restarting gdm3 once

I am running Ubuntu on an opd iMac 2011. It's been working great, but after restarting gdm3 once it will not show the desktop again. I have done several reboots and reinstalling gdm3 did not fix it. I know the computer itself is fine as ssh terminal works and using an Ubuntu thumb drive I can use the Try Ubuntu option without any issues. Do you have any ideas about what I can do to fix this?

I have one ubuntu server running 20.04 with 2 NIC – one connected to the internet gateway and the other connected to another ubuntu server running 22.04. I cannot get the computer running 22.04 to see the internet or the 20.04 server. The 20.4 server does see the internet.

Ubuntu 22.04.03 LTS stuck on power-off/reboot screen

My system is not shutting down / rebooting propperly since a couple days, it gets stuck a the black screen with the dell and ubuntu logos. Only way to shut down is to hold the power button for 5 seconds.

Live USB crashes when installing Wine

I flashed ubuntu-23.04-desktop-legacy-amd64.iso (Ubuntu 23.04 Desktop with Legacy Installer) on to an 8GB USB drive. I booted into the live USB successfully.

In the live environment, I added universe repository and followed the official method to install winehq-stable aside from using --no-install-recommends instead of --install-recommends to save bandwidth and disk space.

NOTE: this is NOT a hardware problem. I booted up an Ubuntu installation media, all the devices work as they should. I would like to get my local SSD installation to work like before. New installation is not an option at this moment for many reasons (and time is the most important of them).
