Ubuntu 22.04 Server BTRFS root

I am trying to install ubuntu server 22.04 on a BTRFS root partition but i cannot get past the installer not allowing me to set the root filesystem on a btrfs partition.

My Disk layout:

  • 3 500GB SSDs (2 connected to NVME and one SATA)
  • 2 2TB HDDS (connected to SATA)

What I want:

  • RAID0 on BTRFS for my root and boot partitions (over all three ssds)
  • RAID1 on the HDDS (can be done later, will not be part ...

Point DNS to my Ubuntu VM

I'm running Ubuntu VM on bridged connection with my main machine, so the public IP is the same for both. I have pointed a no-ip.com DNS to the public IP, however I still cannot access the domain. I have waited few hours to make sure it updates. Am I doing something wrong?

What is the correct way to install Ubuntu and windows on a new computer, on the first M.2 disk I want to install ubuntu and as a second system Windows 10 on an SSD.

Installing Win on the M.2 is not an option since 99% of the time I use Ubuntu so I don't want to install Windows on the M.2

Should I install Windows on the SSD first and then Ubuntu on the M.2? Or should I install Ubuntu on the M.2 first ...

How do I set openssl installed via apt as default openssl?

when I execute :

sudo apt install openssl

It shows :

openssl is already the newest version (3.0.2-0ubuntu1.7)

But querying openssl version via openssl version shows :

Much like how reclock worked on Windows, I want to be able to slow down ONLY 25fps videos to 24fps with the corresponding reduction in audio pitch in order to cancel-out any PAL speed-up (PAL speed-down?) while leaving videos that are already 24fps, 30fps, 50fps, 60fps, etc. to play back as-is without any speed and pitch alteration.

I’m having issues booting up- frozen screen

I’m having issues booting up. I have a work around (hit shift on startup -->recovery mode-->recovery menu--> clean, then resume normal boot) but it is annoying, to say the least.

Problem with enabling FIPS

While in the process of hardening a new Ubuntu installation, I performed the basic steps of enabling FIPS as described here. After rebooting, I found that /proc/sys/crypto didn't exist. Oddly, sudo ua status shows that fips-updates is enabled.

After troubleshooting, I ended up checking GRUB and found there were the following entries

  • Ubuntu, with Linux 5.14.0-1054-oem
  • Ubuntu, with Linux 5.14.0-1054-oem ...

Network interface name is getting updated to eth0 from ens192

I have observed an issue where network interface name got updated from ens192 to eth0 on Ubuntu 20 OS after performing patching.

Because of this change in network interface name, docker container running on respective nodes throws below error -

Cannot connect to the Docker daemon at unix:///var/run/docker.sock. Is the docker daemon running?

WSL2 export is huge - 118 GB!

I wanted to do a back up of my Ubuntu-20.04 WSL image or whatever is called and the tar file that resulted is 118 GB.

The login screen shows a Usage of 22% of 250 GB., so that would be 55GB. But still that's not 118 GB.

Does the wsl --export command archive the whole partition?

What could be the reason?

Recovering tar files within Ubuntu OS!

I accidentally deleted my backup files which are stored as .tar files within Ubuntu. I was trying to use various tools (testdisk, extundelete, and ext3grep) to recover the tar files (contain PNG files). None of them works to recover the tar file, however, foremost was able to recover the PNG files with different names which makes recovering to its original status really hard!

Network controller BCM4352 not recognized on 22.04 LTS

After reinstalling Ubuntu, my laptop's network interface has suddenly disappeared.

It's not shown anymore in lspci nor lsusb.

I tried various recent versions of Ubuntu install medias and none have recognized my network controller.

The Broadcom driver used to be available in the additional drivers settings.

If I recall correctly, it was a BCM4352.

Overwriting Flash Drive with ISO File?

I have a USB flash drive that has an iso file of Ubuntu 18.04 on it. To be honest, I don't really remember how I'd done that, might have been with Rufus on Windows, or with the Startup Disk Creator on Ubuntu.

This is a problem that occurred within the last year after one of the software updates. I cannot tell when or which update. Simply put, I can run 'sudo apt...' successfully from the terminal. Not a password problem. The GUI update-manager and software-center does not recognize my password.

I have a Virtualbox Virtual Machine running Ubuntu 20.04 with 32 GB disk space. When trying to upgrade to Ubuntu 22.04 I get the message: to less disk space. So within Virtualbox Manager I could increase the size of the VM to 64 GB.
