3 monitors work on Windows but not Ubuntu
jp flag

I am dual booting this laptop with Windows 11 and Ubuntu. I plan on almost always using Ubuntu. When I plug in my 2 additional monitors to the laptop using Windows they all work fine giving me 3 total displays. When I do it on Ubuntu however, only one of the monitors works giving me only 2 displays. I am using a thunderbolt 4 to hdmi for one and an hdmi to hdmi for the other. Whichever monitor I plug  ...

Undo KDE install on Ubuntu
us flag

I recently did this: sudo tasksel install kubuntu-desktop

Since then I have come to regret the choice, as many of my default apps have changed, and I can't actually seem to boot to the KDE desktop anyway.

I'm looking for a painless way to undo what I did, basically!

Is there a script or something?

Ob Paying Attention:

I did try: sudo apt-get remove kubuntu-desktop

And that changed nothing useful.

Could i use Ubuntu in a hybrid laptop?
tm flag

So recently i bought a LENOVO IdeaPad Duet 3 10IGL5-872 with Intel Celeron N4020 - RAM: 4 GB - 64 GB eMMC - Intel UHD Graphics 600 for specs. This is basicly a laptop that has a touchscreen and the keyboard can be detached. I would love to know if Ubuntu would be a perfect fit and if it could be used in such a laptop.

Wacom Intuos Pro M Pen Flip not detected
fr flag

Any ideas why flipping my pen on my Wacom Intuos Pro M does not seem to work reliably? Usually when I flip the pen the function changes from stylus to eraser. But not always. So in Gimp, or Inkscape the tool does not change when I flip the pen. Weirdness is sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

This seems to happen most often if the laptop goes into sleep mode, the longer it sleeps the more li ...

How to update GCC to 11.2
cn flag

Today I installed Ubuntu 20.04 (first time using Linux) and I'm having trouble with updating GCC to 11.2 (latest stable version). I checked another question and tried it but after updating it, it's still showing this:

gcc (Ubuntu 9.3.0-17ubuntu1~20.04) 9.3.0

Also, I want to uninstall all the older versions and only keep 11.2. Is this possible? Or even recommended?

dd Input/Output error trying to image an Ubuntu Mate USB flash image
ru flag

We are trying to make backup images of our Raspberry Pi test stations using the standard dd command but can not get past an IO error. dd has an IO error and ddrescue has a unaligned error but gparted does not see any issues with the USB drive. The system boots and runs normally so I'm thinking it has something to do with sector size definitions as suggested by this thread.

Can't properly select lower resolution for external monitor
sm flag

I've got a funny problem with an external monitor which is actually an eink android tablet that can double as an HDMI monitor. It's called the Dasung Not-eReader 103. I'm trying to use this to reduce strain on my eyes from staring at an LCD 15 hours a day. To answer the question of "why would you try to use an Android tablet as a monitor?".

Anyway, the device has a non-standard 4:3 resolution of  ...

Display brightness resets after rebooting

I am working on a XMG Core 15 with Ubuntu 20.04. My problem is that every time I reboot my laptop, the display brightness resets to the minimum but the actual screen brightness is maximum. HDD mounted as read-only in ubuntu 21.10
in flag

I had this problem once, I tought restarting would solve, but instead it opened initramfs. To solve it I did a fsck in my Ubuntu partition. It worked but every time I shutdown the system loads into initramfs. I'm losing my head!

My hard disk is new, about 8 months old. It's impossible that it's already in its end of life.

Help with adding secondary IPs to Netplan on Ubuntu 20.04 AWS EC2 instance

I have a Ubuntu 20.04 ec2 instance. I need to add three more persistent private IP addresses in addition to the primary. I'm familiar with the old way of doing this, but I have no experience with Netplan. Here is what I have (by default) in my 50-cloud-init.yaml file:

I don't know what is the problem!

Any ideas on how I can get it to work?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
