xdman zoomed to 500% and is unusable
tr flag

I recently installed Xtreme Download Manager on Ubuntu and since the window and all the buttons and texts were too small, I changed the zoom percentage to 500% (!) in options. Now when I open it, all I can see is a black window with nothing on it. I can't access options (or anything else on the app) anymore so I can't change the zoom options back to normal. As a result, the app is completely unusable.

Wifi stopped working after moving laptop to a different place

I opened my laptop at my parent's house about a month ago and the wifi stopped working. I always had connection issues with their router, but I've never had my computer stop connecting to the internet completely.

For the past month I've tried:

  • Reinstalling iwlwifi from iso
  • Upgrading Ubuntu from 18.04 to 20.04
  • Messing with so many files following answers to similar problems. I did it so many time I can' ...

Terminal displays strange characters instead of prompt after upgrade from Xununtu 18.04 to 20.04

I have just upgraded from Xubuntu 18.04 to Xubuntu 20.04.

When trying to use the terminal window (not the full-screen terminal) I only see strange characters.

The terminal window I am talking about is managed by xfce4-terminal version 0.8.9.1.

Under Xubuntu 18.04 my terminal prompt was colored. I guess, the escape sequences to make color output don't work any longer.

What must I do that the term ...

I'd like my Ubuntu 20.04 server to run crond with the -L15 flag. What's the right way to configure it to do so?

See man cron.

/etc/init.d/cron does not give me the impression I should mess with it.

I just recently installed Ubuntu Linux on my PC and I'm having an extremely hard time getting the correct Bluetooth volume output to my Bose QC35 headphones.

I visited Ubuntu 18.04 bluetooth low volume to try the approach using pavucontrol but this just distorts the audio instead of making it louder

Asus X571 notebook shutting down because critical temperature is reached (99°C)

It has happened several times that my notebook suddenly switches off due to the CPU reaching critical temperature, as can be seen in the log. Strange, however, that the CPU fan is not already running at maximum speed at these moments, but quietly and at a lower speed, and it seems to me that the fan does not get faster in time.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
