Application Audio Doesn't Seem to Work When Also Using Microphone
kr flag

I am using Ubuntu 20.04 running Kernel 5.11.0.36.40. The audio is behaving very strangely and I'm not sure how to fix it. It seems to happen only when I'm using applications that use both the microphone and the speaker. For example, when I use Spotify, everything is fine. Or even if I use Youtube within my browser--everything is fine.

But, when I use Zoom, Discord, or Google Meet (within the same ...

I have a Dell vostro 5502 laptop, running ubuntu 20.04. There are several issues with audio.

Sometimes I plug in headphones and it does not detect them, if I adjust the audio it will still say "speaker", with no sound out of headphones or speaker.

Sometimes vice versa, with not detecting that the headphones have been removed.

If I reboot the computer then the issues are fixed.

I want to reinstall Ubuntu on a PC (let's call it PC_1) running Ubuntu Server OS (No GUI) that cannot connect to the internet.

To do so, I have downloaded Ubuntu 18.04 iso from another PC, but I am not sure what to do then.

I have flashed the iso on a USB drive with Balena Etcher, but then I don't know how to go on.

I guess I should connect the USB drive to PC_1, locate the USB drive and run something f ...

Nautilus resize to increase image size does not work with Scale option
kr flag

With Ubuntu 2020.04.3 (Focal) I used Nautilus resize (i.e. right click the file in Nautilus) to increase the image's size using the Scale option. It creates a resized image file with the same number of pixels when I used scale of (e.g.) 150 on a 582x582 image. I've tried it with both png & jpg files. however, when I specified the number of pixels for height & width (893x893) ,it worked OK.

WiFi terribly slow minutes after boot
us flag

I'm encountering a problem with the WiFi on my Ubuntu 20.04 LTS system. The issue is that the WiFi works fine right after boot but then drops to 1-2% of the initial speed minutes after.

On Windows 10 I don't have this issue.

I've tried sudo modprobe -r iwlwifi and sudo modprobe iwlwifi from this post Wi-Fi on Ubuntu 20.04 is very slow which merely yielded the same results as a reboot.

This is my first week using Ubuntu and my first day using a drawing tablet. So forgive me if this question turns out to be dumb.

So, I purchased a Huion Kamvas Pro 20 earlier to use with my PC running Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. It got detected on the first connection as a second monitor, great. I was able to install Krita and test out drawing on it, great. The pressure sensitivity on the pen was detected, ...

How do directories .gvfs and gvfs-metadata differ?

I am running luckyBackup; have excluded .gvfs but I get gvfs-metadata errors. Are .gvfs and gvfs-metadata the same thing? If not, how do they differ? Is it wise to exclude gvfs-metadata from backup? The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
