server address and ip in ubuntu 20.04
ru flag

I have not used ubuntu much, only when I have to deploy a web. Right now I am trying to deploy a python django web, but I have an issue with ip address.

So, I tried python manage.py runserver at first, and it gave timed-out errors. Server address, which I was told by my supervisor and which I can only access via putty, is xxx.yy.zzz.aaa. When I tried to deploy my python django web specifically to this a ...

Can envsubst be used to replace environment variables in a given variable, not file?
cn flag

I know that I can use envsubst command to replace environment variables inside a file and write it to an output file:

envsubst < input.txt > output.txt

However, now I only have a variable and it's not a file. But I still need to replace any environment variable inside it.

what's the canonical way to install nodejs on an Ubuntu desktop (21.x)?
cn flag

I understand that apt is NOT the regular way

I see 3 options:

  1. download and run an opaque script from the nodejs sites
  2. umake (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-make)
  3. asdf (https://asdf-vm.com/)

I'd like to take a look at the Tryton web client (named Sao) and nodejs is a requirement

How am I supposed to get that ?

Capslock key self activates

There was a similar question posted by another User ,however whilst their problem is largely the same as mine, their solution is irrelevant to my equipment. I have a normal new mechanical USB keyboard (not cheap) and CapsLock is self activated on start up, as well as intermittently/random whilst I am working. For example (just only one of many), when the CapsLock is OFF and an action/app requires passwo ...

Zoom keeps changing its output audio volume
in flag

I'm on Ubuntu 20.04, using the Zoom 5.5.4 client (but I experienced the problem with previous versions as well). More often than not (but weirdly enough not always), whenever I start or join a meeting, Zoom keeps changing its output audio volume. Most of the time, it is turned down to around 5-10% and I need to open my volume control to adjust it back before I can hear people.

Some packages cannot be installed from Live Ubuntu USB installation

I have created an Live Ubuntu Desktop 20.04.3 LTS USB and booted into Ubuntu. I am confused over the fact that some packages cannot be apt-installed, such as llvm and tk-dev. I have previously installed these just fine in a regular Ubuntu 20.04.x installation and can't figure out why I cannot do it in this live boot installation.

Removing Install Screen when booting from Live USB with persistence on 20.04 Ubuntu Server

I understand this question is extremely similar to this, however the solutions in that question do not apply to current methods of controlling Grub when booting a USB. My initial grub screen is controlled by grub.cfg, not syslinux.txt or isolinux.txt.

To start off with, I have successfully created a persistent USB. I can use ctrl-alt-f3 to drop into shell and do what I need to do (which is compile and ...

Is there a specific ticket/issue number for error with network adapter on Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS?

This is my first question on AskUbuntu so please don't eat me alive :D

So I came across this question and it seems like there's an error with network adapter on Ubuntu 20.04.2 causing Bluetooth and/or WiFi problems (in my case only one of them can work :| ). I was wondering if one could monitor this issue somehow and track the bugfix (or verify the answer to the question)? Where are such problems rep ...

`chainloader bootmgfw.efi` does not load Windows
bq flag

I have installed Ubuntu alongside with Windows 10, and they are on different disks. Since the disk containing Windows does not have a UEFI partition and uses C:/EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi to load Windows instead, grub does not recognize the Windows bootloader.

If I boot from Ubuntu install USB and enter the grub command line, by running the following commands I can start Windows successfully:

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
