I left my Ubuntu machine without touching it for some time. Usually then I move the mouse and enter my password and continue.

I do not know if it is relevant, but this time I pressed by mistake Ctrl+Tab, then moved the mouse to get the login screen.

But now, the screen is black (except for an arrow for the mouse, but the mouse is not responsive) and I cannot login.

The PC is working furiously (I can  ...

ng flag

Google Chrome Mozilla Firefox Visual Studio Code Terminal

As shown in the image, the four corners of the original window should be rounded, but after installing the update, the bottom two corners became right angles. The applications that this happens include Visual Studio Code, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Terminal, etc.

(I installed the Mac Os Big Sur theme. It worked fine before I installed the update.)

Data recovery of failing hdd & disappearing hdd devices

I have a failing 6TB SATA hdd with one NTFS partition (the source drive, /dev/sdc2) from which I'm trying to recover the data. I was using the disk in my Windows PC. To recover the data, I'm using a brand new empty 8TB target drive (/dev/sda2) with one NTFS partition.

I started using ddrescue on Ubuntu 21.04 to do the recovery based on tips I found in this forum. I used this command: ddrescue -f  ...

USB DAC: Only youtube has sound on Firefox
cn flag

I have Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and a USB DAC. I'd like to use it play music. So far, I can use Audacious to play mp3/flac with the USB DAC. But with Firefox (91.0 64-bit), it is very strange, only with Youtube, it can play sound. On other sites, including music and video sites, there is no sound at all when playing, although I can see that there is sound output in PulseAudio Volume Control's playback tab.

I am trying to install sqlite onto the raspberry pi I have been using. The following error code appears and any attempts to fix it have failed so far. I have tried reinstalling python3.6, purging the named modules, attempted changing the PYTHONHOME as well as many other commands seen on similar forums. Please let me know if there are any ideas for fixing this error.

Block 1.4 million IP addresses on VPS

How can I block a list of about 1.4 million IP addresses? I've already tried to do it with iptables PREROUTING, like:

But with this many records, my bandwidth goes down like crazy when I do a speedtest.

Without blocked IPs in iptables:

1 Gb/s

With blocked IPs in iptables:

3 Mb/s at peak.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
