Firmware update on Dell Precision 5510 fails
in flag

Previous firmware updates have worked, but this latest one (1.17.0) is giving me issues.

In Discover, it first shows me a message about a checksum failure, but doesn't crash. Available updates includes "Dell Inc. System Firmware" version 1.17.0. Current version is 1.16.1.

When I try to update it, another popup says "No supported device found" and the update remains in the list of available updates.

I would like to add the "workspaces switcher" in GNOME classic's taskbar of my ubuntu 20.04. The right-click of the mouse has no response.

I've installed the gnome-tweak-tool, and the "mouse & touchpad" page in it has nothing to do with that. Could anyone please help me?

find -f results in unknown predicate in ubuntu, but works in macOS
uz flag

I'm attempting to set an environment variable with the following script. find -f ./node_modules/@marcom/*/src/scss -type d -d 0 | tr $'\n' :

This exact script works fine in macOS, however when I push to a remote server running ubuntu and attempt to run the same script, I get the result:

find: unknown predicate '-f'

I wasn't aware that find worked differently across OS variants, any pointers here  ...

Firefox saved logins recovery with photorec
cl flag

I basically destroyed my Ubuntu drive with a bad terminal command that wrote over some essential portions of the drive. I'd estimate about 95%+ of the data is still intact but hard to reach. Now I'm just trying to recover some of my files with photorec.

Most importantly, all my passwords to various online accounts are randomly generated strings that I had saved in Firefox to autofill when needed. ...

Is startup of Ubuntu Server faster than Ubuntu Desktop?
co flag

I mainly have to use the terminal, but the problem is that my Ubuntu 20.04 Desktop startup is slow. It takes time to load after Ubuntu and manufacturer's logo shows up.

Does Ubuntu Server consume less RAM than Desktop, and does it provide faster login?

Sound Device problem
cn flag

I have 3 monitors (two of them 4K TVs), every time I restart, Ubuntu randomly picks one of the monitors as the sound device. It does not matter how many times I change it; my selection is not saved permanently.

And 7 times out of 10 it picks the one connected to the DVI port.

Timeshift restored snapshot undone after restart
ci flag

When using Timeshift to go back to the working version of my Ubuntu system, the working version only stays until I shut the PC down and turn it back on. When I do so, it goes back to the non-working version.

What can I do to persist the working snapshot's even after shut down?

P.S rebooting doesn't revert back to non-working version, turning off and back on does.

I was running triple boot, Windows 8.1, Garuda linux and Ubuntu 20.04, i removed Garuda linux, used boot repair to fix minor hiccups, and used MiniTool Partition wizard (on windows) to resize the swap partition of Ubuntu from 12gb to 8gb, as i need more space for storage, and thus Ubuntu isn't starting at all, used grub repair again, but it just goes all black after i select Ubuntu at grub menu.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
