In XFCE panel, is there any way to distinguish terminals that are waiting for input from ones that are running a process?
us flag

I might not have the terminology perfect.

In my XFCE panel on Ubuntu Studio 20.04 I have a "Window Buttons" area, much like a Taskbar in MS Windows.

The visual real estate quickly gets used up by terminals - because whatever one tries to do in a GUI there is always a terminal command needed at some point.

I'd find it useful to make the open terminals that have the $ prompt up and are waiting for a comm ...

Portage or Portage like program for Ubuntu

I saw this question Can I install Portage, Pacman or other package managers on Ubuntu?, that it wasn't a good idea to install portage on Ubuntu because of how tightly bundled it is with gentoo. The reason I want to install it is for managing things I compile from source. I don't want to compile everything I just want the ability to manage what I do choose to compile from source. Hi,

I'll try to compact my issue and what I've carried out/found trying to fix my problem over the last 3 days.

I had a manjaro install in dual-boot with Win10 previously. I removed this install with diskpart by selecting the disk and cleaning (removed because of RDRAND "funky smelling output" - although note, Manjaro was n ...

Boot problem related to disk issues after sleep mode

I put my computer in sleep mode, when I turned it on after a long time when I ran, right after the grub screen, I encountered an error that I do not remember clearly that says disk0 cannot be accessed. When I reboot with hope to fix it, the grub screen did not open and no boot was found.

When I ran gparted from the Ubuntu live cd I saw that my 256GB SSD only showed 16KB. When I ran fsck I got a " ...

Microfone Blue yeti returning audio

So my blue yeti microphone has an audio jack, where I plug my headset. The thing is it has this feature that it returns audio from the microphone to the headset.

When I'm on windows, it seems the OS tells the microphone to stop doing that. But on ubuntu, it doesn't do that. The mic and the headset work fine, but I have to endure listening to myself alongside normal output.

Merge two boot partitions

I have Windows dual-boot with KDE Neon, and I can boot to each OS easily. But there are two boot partitions on my PC, though I set up for one when I install neon. I mount /boot into /dev/nvme0n1p1, and it contains both neon and the old windows (does not work) boot files. But when I boot into windows, it boots from /dev/sda2, which was created after troubleshooting boot options on windows. So can I merge  ...

How do I disable middle button click close in Ubuntu 21.04?
in flag

I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 20.04 to 20.10 and then to 21.04 just fine and am happy to have all the functionality working just fine. I however noticed that now my touchpad has middle button active (I didn't notice this before but could have been a problem in previous version of Ubuntu also) and it closes the currently opened tab in Chrome when clicked accidentally instead of left button click.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
