Where do Subiquity's (Ubuntu Server's) disk ids come from, in the disk partitioning stage?
jo flag

In the manual partitioning stage of Subiquity (Ubuntu Server installer), there is a list of the disks, in the form of ids.

However, those are slightly different from the /dev/disk/by-id entries.

For example, Subiquity displays VBOX_HARRDISK_VB_01234_56789, while the corresponding /dev/disk/by-id file is scsi-0ATA-VBOX_HARRDISK_VB_01234_56789.

Where does the former come from? Is there any way to progr ...

Repair GRUB after removing /boot /boot/efi partitions

I had ubuntu installed on M2 SSD:

  • /dev/nvme0n1p1 /boot
  • /dev/nvme0n1p2 /
  • /dev/nvme0n1p3 /boot/efi
  • /dev/nvme0n1p4 /home

Tried to install Windows on the second SATA SSD, then deleted the /boot and /boot/efi partitions, everything broke (not surprising). Formatted the disk with Windows, merged the /boot/efi partition with /home and tried to restore the GRUB, but it didn't work. In the BIOS, you can see  ...

Wi-Fi does not working in Dell Inspiron 5502 with Ubuntu 20.04

I bought a Dell Inspiron 5502 i5502-M40S. It comes with Windows 10 pre-installed, after some "exercise" I managed to install Ubuntu 20.04 in dual boot. To do this I changed from RAID to AHCI and disabled de secure boot.

However when I log in from Ubuntu the wifi is not enabled. Bluetooth is not working either. The curious thing is that on live usb everything works perfectly.

In Windows all is OK. No ...

Using common audio CDs does not work

Good evening to all the Ubuntu community, I wanted to understand a problem that I realized I have when using Audio CDs. Basically I don't know if it's a problem with my Power version or if it's a problem that Ubuntu has specifically because maybe I'm missing something I don't know. If I try to put a common audio CD in the player, to read the audio tracks and then copy them to the computer, he loads nons ...

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

I thought I should update AMD drivers (big mistake after everything I have read now)

My GPU is AMD Radeon HD 6850. I installed the drivers, and started having an issue where my chrome wouldn't render properly (see screenshots). This bug is the same in a number of applications, but I am unsure what not all of them, leading me to be confused at what is ...

Switch key function in ubuntu

Both of my shift keys don't work, mechanically. On windows, I used sharpkeys to use the right control key as the right shift key. I tried many alternatives on ubuntu but none of them worked out. I think I managed to switch the function but now the control key acting as the shift doesn't really work properly; it doesn't capitalize the letters, instead it just shows a weird symbol in front of them. I would like to know the software that is pre-installed in Ubuntu.

I know this website: https://packages.ubuntu.com/, but in the website all the packages of Ubuntu are mentioned.

Include Activities Search on GNOME to include files

I am currently running Pop_OS 21 but with the cosmic desktop disabled, so using generic GNOME desktop. When pressing the Super key, I have access to a search bar where I can find applications.

I was previously (on Pop 20) able to search through directories for files using this search bar. Is there a way to re-enable this functionality?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
