I was wondering if there are any Vietnamese Chu Nom/Han Nom IMEs out there for Linux. I've seen a couple for Windows but I have yet to see any for Linux yet in my searching so far.

So my question is, are there any Chu Nom/Han Nom IMEs for Ubuntu, preferably for fcitx? I'm using fcitx-unikey to type regular Vietnamese right now on my machine but I was wondering if there were any packages or the li ...

Mount Google Drive automatically at startup (as in Nautilus)
ng flag

I use the mount point /run/user/<user_id>/gvfs/google-drive:host=<host>\,user=<username>/<folder_id>/ in an automated backup script to copy some files on Google Drive regularly, and it works well.

However, I need to click first on the Google Drive icon in Nautilus so that Google Drive is mounted. Is there a way to mount Google Drive automatically at startup?

Label "activities" in Plasma 5 desktop?
cn flag

I've been running Plasma 5 as part of Kubuntu 20.04 since December 2020, and I've set up "activities" after reading suggestions that doing so helps with actual work efficiency (reduces distractions as well as limiting desktop clutter). I currently have four activities defined: Daily, Games, 3D CAD and Printing, and Photography -- this allows me to minimize the number of desktop icons in each, as well a ...

What causes "soft lockup" errors and how can I fix it?
cn flag

I've been seeing sporadic messages of the form "BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 22s!" from the System Notifier for several months -- I've had at least three or four kernel version updates in that time period, and the problem appears to be getting worse -- just last night, I had two of my eight cores in this state, resulting in a browser lockup that I couldn't reset by any means I was aware of (had to ...

Ubuntu 21.04 Server on Raspberry Pi: how to launch a setup instead of running live?
cn flag

With current rpi images you run the OS live from the SD without setup.

I would like to move everything except /boot to a usb 3 disk for speed and I would like to be able to setup other options.

Is there a way to launch the setup software from the "live" distribution?

Thanks.

In Ubuntu 20.04, how can I create partitions seperate from /home, /root etc. for storing files?

To elaborate on the title, I just want my documents (text, media or whatever) to be safe from deletion in case of a re-installation of Ubuntu and at the same time to remain accessible now. Just as things are in Windows: no matter how many times you re-install the OS in c:, the data in other partitions remain intact.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
