I'm trying to run a .cpp file on Ubuntu. I'm on a Windows computer and downloaded Ubuntu from the microsoft store. Problem is, I couldn't safely run my program on my root (reasons dont matter) and had to run it on another user. So, I created a new user ("noroot") and am trying to put my .cpp on there. But if I click on my new user, or try and manually swipe my file in the folder, I get this message:

Recently the audio from some websites on my Ubuntu 22.04 desktop is barely audible. This happens only on my sites but not others, but happens on both Chrome and Firefox.

Running `sudo nmap` through snap, while allowing to write to user's home dir

I have a problem running nmap in such a way that all the following requirements are satisfied:

  • I want to install nmap through snap
  • I want to run nmap with sudo (the scan type I want to run requires root permissions)
  • I want to write output to the current directory (in the user's home directory)

These requirements seem fairly simple, but I don't succeed in setting this up in the right way.

Terminal Doesn't Open After Install

I'm running Chrome on the container and I'm trying to access a website, but the website needs a certain system requirement to run and it runs checks. Unfortunately, I can't just patch the variable it uses because it has extra checks to detect that.

How to run software updater once a day only?

It seems to me that software updater is running several times a day (Ubuntu 22.04).

This consumes CPU and network resources, possibly at times when they are needed for more important things.

The run setting is set to Daily. It should only run once a day.

How to make this happen?

The process is, start the client/vpn and then wait for the authentication screen/page (SAML/SSO) to ingress with mail/pass.

I first discovered this problem when my Brave browser would occasionally report DNS_PROBE_POSSIBLE. However, it isn't just a browser issue. It happens at unpredictable times and there is no way to know how long it will last. When it happens, I can't use the Brave Browser or dig, but my Signal messaging app still works.

How to manually give configuration file to top command?

I know that top behaviour can be changed interactively and can be stored as a cfg file as toprc and it will use that cfg automatically. Is there a way to write and feed the configuration file (stored in different location) to top command as command line or by any ways.

In my case, I have to use a configuration file stored in my project directories and it shouldnt affect normal top behaviour.

Why sum of all process CPU(%) is greater than total cpu(%) utilisation in top command

In a top command instance, the CPU utilisation (100-idle) was 14% but the top most process "Chrome" alone consumes 253%. I am unsure of how the chrome process consumes CPU more than 100%.

Some answers show that its because of multicore system and we should turn off IRIX mode for that.

If thats right, I want a solution to turn off IRIX mode in batch mode since my task relies on running top in batch mode ...
