my desktop unmocks when using xrandr completely

I use a projector. I have create a simple script to configure the most suitable resolution:

xrandr --output HDMI-1 --mode 1280x720

xrandr --output HDMI-2 --mode 1280x720

It works but the desktop behaves in a strange way. Please you should examines the following snapshot:

Any way of creating a dummy disk for smartd testing?

I recently installed a smartd & msmtp on my server to use it as a hard drive monitor. I tested with the smartd -M function and it sends the mails correctly.

Supposedly will track and send me an email if temps go too crazy or a bad sector is detected,but wanna test if it really works.

Why doesn't the dash work on Ubuntu's Unity desktop environment when I try to search online?

I use the Unity desktop environment on Ubuntu 20.04. I enable online searching in Settings, but it still does not let me search the web from the dash. When I tried installing dash plugins that would allow me to search the web, Unity crashed and I had to reinstall it.

How do I overcome this?

Bash execution is not working with one liner, how to fix that?

I have a bash file, which I kept remotely and below steps are working.

curl -fsSL -o check.sh https://github.com/uday1kiran/python_deb_create/raw/testbash/tmp/check.sh
chmod 700 check.sh
sudo ./check.sh

But, if I change that to one line command, it is not working/showing any output.

Why doesn't the wildcard "?" work?

I'm learning to use the terminal on Ubuntu with WSL. Right now I'm practicing wildcards, but the ? wildcard doesn't work for me.

As you can see, the * wildcard works but this one doesn't:

$ ls dot*

$ ls *.html

Can't open FTP from .desktop file in Kubuntu 22.04

I've upgraded Kubuntu from 20.04 to 22.04 and now I can't open FTP link in Dolphin, instead Firefox is opening and it asks which program would I use to open this file. If I type address in Dolphin directly, it is opening without problems. My .desktop files are like this:

I have a java application packaged as an executable file with JavaPackager. The content of the tar.gz file is:

  • a PNG file (provided by me - 128px/128px )
  • a folder with all the .jar libs
  • an executable file (bash shell)

When that application is executing, its icon is displayed in the taskbar, but in an ugly way, like an enlarged small icon:
