Display lag on external monitor with ThinkPad Dock
cn flag
TVG

I have a ThinkPad Hybrid USB-C with USB-A Dock connected to a ThinkPad T14 laptop with Ubuntu 20.04 and a DELL external monitor. I had no display on my external screen until I installed the following driver: https://www.synaptics.com/products/displaylink-graphics/downloads/ubuntu. Since then, display is working (both in HDMI and DP) but response time is very slow. Any idea how to fix this?

sudo apt update always reports it has mismatch errors, no matter which mirror is used. All suggested workarounds like apt-get clean, etc. do not help.

I would appreciate some ideas, Ubuntu 21.10 desktop runs as a VM in VM Fusion.

KDE animations do not work when using the on-demand Nvidia mode if compositor is set to use OpenGL 2/3
kr flag

When I switch to use the on-demand function (using the command sudo prime-select on-demand), the KDE animations render at literally 1 FPS, unless I change the Rendering backend option to XRender. It works fine with Intel or Nvidia (performance mode) is enabled.
Is there a way to fix this?
Thanks.

Matrix-Synapse and Matrix-Element Server Client connection problems at fresh Ubuntu install

After installed Synapse on Ubuntu 20.04 with Nginx seems everything working fine. No errors and can access the ports 8008 and 8448. Testing with the federation URL https://federationtester.matrix.org/ give me a success with missing SRV record. When typing the URL from my home-server with port 8008 I get a white empty page.

I recently switched to Ubuntu 20.04 from windows 10 on my laptop. I often use an additional monitor connected via HDMI, which worked perfectly on Windows. My laptop is a HP Envy with an intel core i7 (with integrated graphics) and also an Nvidia GeForce MX300 dedicated GPU.

When I plug in my second monitor via HDMI a few things happen. To start with, everything seizes up for a second, and ubuntu  ...

Need some help. Thanks in advance.

OS information: Ubuntu 21.10 (Impish), attempting to install Wine 6.20 from source (WoW64 'shared' version)

More specifically, it appears that Wine (32-bit) installed successfully, but when I attempt to check wine64 --version, it doesn't appear... I ran ./configure --enable-wine64 before the actual build and I made sure to install my 32-bit build (in a separate directly) BEFORE installing wine64. ...

Install Ubuntu 20.04

Yesterday I decided to install ubuntu as win10 keeps giving me problems.

So I worked out how to install it and it worked fine.

I then tried to partition the 1tb hdd into 2 sections.

That I could not figure out.

So I thought it must be easier to reinstall and partition the hdd at this point.

So I did another install and made the partitions, which are working fine, the partitions th ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
