convert bunch of images to black and white with overwritting existing images
in flag

I need to convert a bunch of images (about 1000) to black and white I used the following code:

convert *.bmp -monochrome ./*.bmp

but it produces new images. for example, I have file1.bmp, file2.bmp and etc. and it converts them to file1-1.bmp file2-2.bmp and so on. I need the exact same name for images so I prefer to overwrite the existing one. any suggestion. Thanks!

Whenever I open any application (browsers, VLC, MS Teams etc) the CPU usage goes over 100% for that specific process and the whole pc lags to a point where it's not usable. I'm on Ubuntu 20.04 and never had this problem before. Had this laptop for about a year and this issue occurred suddenly a few days ago while I was working.

Remove purple colour from GDM on Ubuntu 21.10
gq flag

I have removed the Ubuntu purple colour from gdm with some command I don't remember in the past and it returned after upgrading to Ubuntu 21.10.

I tried: sudo update-alternatives --config gdm3.css to no avail. The command returns "update-alternatives: error: no alternatives for gdm3.css".

Any suggestions?

I have recently upgraded my laptop to Ubuntu 21.10. I have Ryzen 5900HX and GeForce RTX 3070 onboard. Unfortunatelty I can turn on the computer only without the external screen plugged to an HDMI port (plugging it in after boot does not work either, but this never worked with this laptop).

So I have fairly recently started using Ubuntu as my main OS and it has been quite smooth for the past 4 months but today I was intimated that the system is full and on checking the var/log/ seems to have used an enormous chunk from my hard drive and I really don't know what to do and need advice. How can I always measure the execution time of a terminal process?
pg flag

I'm trying to make the terminal always display the execution time of a process that I call via the command line (i.e., I want to find out how long it takes to for the process to finish).

I know that if you type time before the command, at the end it will display the execution time, but the idea is not to type anything but the command and receive the execution time at the end if possible.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
