How do you downgrade php8.0 to php7.4 in Ubuntu 21.10
ru flag

Normally you would use add-apt-repository ppa:ondrej/php, however, there does not seem to be a release file for 21.10 so it does not add the repository. A few websites I have setup do not work with php8.0 so I am trying to find out how to downgrade to php7.4, but the instructions for 21.04 do not work for 21.10. Is there another way to do this outside of using ondrej/php repo?

Whera are the Ubuntu 21.10 (Impish Indri) relese notes published?
ro flag

Did the final Impish Indri release notes get published somewhere? There's a closed discussion in discourse, but nothing shows up in search on the wiki, and the obvious link (following the pattern for previous releases) https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ImpishIndri/ReleaseNotes doesn't exist.

fsck on a zulucrypt volume
it flag

When I had TrueCrypt, I could dismount my encrypted volume and run fsck on it as follows:

   sudo umount /media/veracrypt1 # dismount
sudo veracrypt /dev/sdb --filesystem=none # open without mounting
veracrypt -l & # pop up location box
   sudo fsck -f /dev/mapper/veracrypt1 # run fsck

Now I've updated to zuluCrypt and these commands don't work.  ...

Recently updated the OS on my raspberry pi from Hirsute to Impish, but now nothing is showing up in ls -al /dev/serial/by-id even though the device shows up in lsusb.

Why is it not recommended to install Windows after Ubuntu for dual-boot?
in flag

I know the process is a little bit more complicated in this direction, and grub has to be updated and/or repaired after installing Windows. Is there another reason, besides the more complicated installation process, that it is not recommended to install Windows on existing Ubuntu? Does it lead to stability issues or anything once the installation is completed?

Faulty upgrade of Linux 5.11 update on Ubuntu 20.04 only launches blankscreen with intermittently flashing cursor

Has anyone come up with a solution to this problem that actually works? This has been occurring ever since the Linux 5.11.0-36-generic update on Ubuntu 20.04. I can't even boot into the 5.11 kernel. After the Ubuntu splash screen, I just get a blank screen with an intermittently flashing cursor. Under previous kernel 5.8 that would normally be followed by the Nvidia splash screen, but under 5.11, the Nv ...

I've been having issues with static noises, popping and crackling, for a while now. They happen briefly when I boot up, but stop on before I log in. They come back at seemingly random times. Browsing the internet seems to be a trigger, or just extended periods of use. Doesn't matter whether the charger is connected or not.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
