Can't ping or remote connect to Ubuntu 18.04 when I close computer lid
co flag

I've set up an old laptop (dell e6330) with Ubuntu 18.04 Desktop. I want to be able to stash the machine in a closet but be able to have it continue to run as a server and also be able to remote connect to it (from Windows 10).

Note about remote connection config: I had lots of trouble getting this to work at all. In the end, the only good solution I found was to use the xrdp-install-1.2.3 from  ...

Why does the super key display the symbol ⎄? Ubuntu
cn flag

By default, all binds in ubuntu are associated with the super (windows) key. And about two hours ago the binds stopped working, and the super key now displays the ⎄ symbol. Now when I write the code and I need to change the language, it prints ⎄. Naturally, binds do not work now, do not change the language, do not minimize the windows. This is my first question here¸ so don't throw your slippers. ...

Big issue here. Every couple days while working I get a seemingly random "Green Screen of Death". Green screen, locks up, SysReq Magic Key procedure doesn't work (I think). The only thing that works (so far) is powering off with the power button. Fires right back up when I start it again and behaves like nothing was wrong. The only thing I can think of that causes this is that this seems to happen when  ...

I did an overclock on ubuntu 21.04 on my raspberry pi 4b 8gb ram. I went to arm_freq=2100 and gpu_freq=750 and over_volt 6; that worked fine. It is very handy to have a search-as-you-type be automatically adopted to any keyboard layout available on the computer. So you do not have to switch between the languages when you are surfing your disks.

For example, if you have the following files in the directory:

  • first
  • second
  • раз
  • два

To find "first" you can type "first" or "ашкые" (which will be "first" with standard Russian layout turne ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
