High pitched rattling sound when I change to 5.1 sound

So I tried getting 5.1 sound working on my dts-x compatible headphones and I ran into a pretty big issue. Every time I change the configuration to 5.1 on the device from pulseaudio volume control, it'll play a really high pitched rattling noise. Could anybody help me with this problem? What is the right parameter for ffmpeg to record audio+video simultaneously?

I have been searching the internet on how to record a streaming playback with video and audio. I found this recipe:

ffmpeg -video_size 1920x1080 -framerate 25 -f x11grab -i :0.0 -f pulse -ac 2 -i default recording.mkv

Probably one of the -i parameters was wrong: The shown command gives me only a recording of the video channel, the sound is missing.

Trying to get DHCP services on ubuntu to work at all. Vanilla os install. copy from existing ubuntu 20 host dhcp server. Services will not start.

Why are keyboard + mouse not responding after being suspended, Ubuntu 22.04?

My iMac (from 2009) is not responding to cues to wake up from suspend: it needs rebooting each time. This comes after updating following 7 months without being used, and soon after upgrading to Ubuntu 22.04.

How can I disable CapsLock during user login?

On my computer running Xubuntu 20.04 I block the key CapsLock by issuing

setxkbmap -option caps:none

through xfce4-settings-settings on login.

I would like to have this key disabled even before, i.e. during the login phase.

How can I reset Okular to show the title bar and menu again?

For a short time the window of Okular always opens in a kind of full screen mode in my Xubuntu 20.04. The title bar and the menu are inaccessible in this mode.

I can't get out of this mode with ESC. I can only quit the program with Alt-F4.

While in former times it was easy to copy data from old drive to new drive, nowadays it seems to be more complicate to me. I tried to go for

  • mount new drive under /mnt
  • rsync -av // /mnt/

Simple .desktop shortcut available for Ctrl+Super+D to show/hide desktop/minimize windows?

Ctrl+Super+D to show desktop/minimize windows can't be used due to QNAP VM browser client on Windows because this shortcut creates a new Windows desktop on host instead.

Because I'd like to keep my installation on a minimum level I don't want to install bulky 3rd party tools.

Is there a simlple .desktop shortcut available which I can put on the dock or desktop to show/hide desktop?

Several Devices became UNCLAIMED after reboot
