Running the following system:

Host: Lenovo ThinkSystem SR550 (gen2) with a HW RAID Controller ThinkSystem 5350-8i.

OS: Ubuntu 22.04.01 server

Kernel: 5.15.0-56-generic

The system is supposedly Certified for Ubuntu:

But, when checking the output of lshw, there is A LOT of UNCLAIMED devices.

Some of which, seem to be sensors and others related to the chipset its ...

How can I save files via simple copy and paste to ZFS /pooltank/home location?

I have spent hours reading through many tutorials and administrator guide from Oracle with no luck.

The purpose of this question is to do simple copy and paste of files to the new pool that I have created.

Below are the steps I have recorded:

How to make GTK Inspector changes permanent?

The "new" Text Editor in Ubuntu 22.10 has large top margin in the edit area as shown below:

Today, I came across the GTK Inspector which can be activated from the Text Editor by pressing Ctrl+Shift+I (capital i). After navigating to ObjectsProperties and changing the value of top-margin from 12 to 2, this top margin size is reduced to a more meaningful setting:

Accidentally commented out main drive in /etc/fstab, cant boot, any way to fix this without clean install?

Yall are gunna chuckle at this one, but in an attempt to resolve a slow boot issue, I opened up etc/fstab, commented what I thought was an unused drive causing the issue, and then rebooted to see if it resolved the issue.

In retrospect, I think I just commented out the main drive because now I can't boot. No backups either.

Is there any way I can fix this? Is there any way to open up the filesystem  ...

Used gparted to resize partitions and now I’m stuck in the black screen on boot

I’ve got a dual boot set up with Windows and Ubuntu on separate partitions. I wanted to give some of the free space on my Windows partition to the Ubuntu one.

I used gparted to make an empty partition with the extra space I wanted to give to Uubuntu. It didn’t work, and then the apps stopped working, so I restarted it. I was greeted with:

GCP Network failure changing network from legacy to shared VPC (only happening in Ubuntu Bionic & Focal)

I need some assistance to please how to troubleshoot this networking issue.

I set up a server/instance on GCP Compute Engine.

Please note that this is only happening in Ubuntu Bionic & Focal. No network issue if I use Debian's image.

There is no network/no IP after changing the legacy network to a shared VPC.

gphoto2 movie capture error: no Viewfinder mode for Canon EOS 400D Rebel XTi

I recently got an Canon EOS 400D to use as a webcam for recording videos. I checked gphoto2 documentation to make sure that it can work as a webcam. The documentation says "Yes" for the Liveview/webcam column for 400D:

Imagemagick C and C++ libraries can't be installed at same time on Ubuntu 22.04

apt install libmagickwand-dev graphicsmagick-libmagick-dev-compat

Issue: apt won't install both packages at the same time. apt removes one when I install the other. If I attempt to install both at the same time I get errors. (please see below)

This PC has been on Ubuntu for ~10 years. It has never been plain sailing but had been working until 2 days ago when we left a DVD video on pause in VLC. When we unpaused a few hours later, the audio started stuttering constantly at high volume that can't be lowered in either VLC or the OS once it starts.

I wonder if it is because of wayland but this started to happen more often: firefox window left side is cut in Ubuntu 22.04 maximized

If I minimize this window, this happens:

In the minimized view, I can't control the edge of the window. This happens to some of the multiple Firefox windows, which are open at the same time. I have an external monitor. I wonder, if this is a known issue. If not, I will submit a bug report.

  1. Color coded my input (commands - green, tags - purple, everything else - white).

What causes GRUB to often (but not always) skip the menu?

I've migrated my machines to Ubuntu 22.04, and since then, I'm experiencing a problem with GRUB.

When rebooting (e.g. by using the reboot command), often, but not always, GRUB skips the menu (instead, it displays a gray screen for a second). If I reboot a second time, the menu is instead displayed.

Installing ubuntu error end of file while reading /dev/sda

I am using Dell Inspiron laptop. I run Dell diagnostic and got error 2000-0142 . When I tried to install Ubuntu on that machine Ive got error: "end of file while reading /dev/sda"

I see some solutions for this issue that state that we need to reinstall the GNOME extension of the desktop icon so I tried these commands

sudo apt install gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-ng and sudo apt-get install ubuntu-gnome-desktop

I also tried to update the command but still have the same issue with icons inside the app ...
