Why does my login screen look broken?
gs flag

Occasionally, when I restart my computer and boot ubuntu (I have dual boot with Windows 10), my Ubuntu login screen looks fragmented. I'm using Nvidia graphics driver version 470 (proprietary), and I have secure boot disabled. I can still type in my password (though I can't see what is happening) and it will display my desktop like normal after I login.

Internet connection is fully broken. Network is unreachable. Ubuntu Server via LAN
dk flag

my Ubuntu server lost its internet connection suddenly (I wasn't even ssh'd in). Now all pings with a hostname fail to resolve and a ping to 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 returns network is unreachable.

How can I fix this? I've attached a couple images of command that I think could help, as I can't use SSH:

resolv.conf

network/interfaces

ifconfig

ip route

I would really appreciate any help.

USB Microphone not working with Zoom in raspberry pi
us flag

I've installed pi-apps in my daughters Raspberry pi 400, and successfully installed Zoom. Everything works fine, we are able to connect to meeting, the video works fine, there is a little lag, but nothing that wouldn't make impossible to use. The only exception is the input sound. The Rapsberry pi 400 has no sound jack, so we are using a USB camera with integrated mic. The mic works fine elsewhere, both ...

Modify an existing keymap

This questions pops up every now and then and there are numerous answers, all of which may have been correct when they were written but somehow do not (always?) apply anymore.

I want to use a modified keymap based on or replacing the standard Colemak layout. I choose to modify the British keymap for this, and changed /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/gb accordingly. These changes work – sometimes:

After you review the image, I’d like to know where to locate an alternate printer driver that works? Is there a site that has alternate Linux printer drivers for common printers?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
