Problem downloading .deb for libssl.so.1.1

Running Ubuntu 22.04.1 off a usb. Trying to jailbreak my phone with palera1n. The commands worked before but I had to rejailbreak and now after running these commands:

sudo add-apt-repository universe
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt install libimobiledevice-utils libusbmuxd-tools git curl python3-pip -y

and then attempting to run these commands to fix libssl.so.1.1 error:

Why is `apt update` fetching half a gigabyte of package lists?

Is it normal for apt update to fetch half a gigabyte of package files? I have a vague memory of it not taking this long at one point, but for some time now it's been fetching these huge package lists when I update. I'm curious whether this is normal.

Sane not found in Gimp

I have follodew the tips in For ubuntu: where to find GIMP XSane plugin?, but I can't see the File → Create → xscanimage menu option.

I have Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS and GIMP 2.10.30. I installed both sudo apt install xsane and sudo apt-get install sane, and XSane is working.

What should I do to use Gimp for scanning?

Like asked here, I have no output of vgdisplay in Ubuntu 20.04. This is a direct result of renaming my volume group, as I was following this this answer. My recent history shows:

How to get the name of Active Local Network without using network utilities?

Is there a file in Linux which stores the name (the SSID) of the local network to which I'm connected to.

I do not want to use any of the network utilities like nmcli or iwgetid or IP to get this information.

I checked the /sys/class/net. Files there can provide the status of the connection, but I cannot find the SSID of the network there.

I don't want to change the size of the icons. I only want to change the spacing.

I have tried both GNOME Tweaks and dconf editor but have not been able to find a place to tweak this.

Terminal displays empty space after international characters

I use Ubuntu Studio 22.04.1 LTS

Since a while, I can see a weird empty space after each time there is an international (or special) character in the screen of the Terminal Panel.

As you can see, after the folder names: "Imágenes" (Images), "Música" (Music) and "Vídeos" (Videos) there is an empty space after the characters "á" "ú" and "í"

I was running 20.04LTS - I had started getting dependency errors, but upgrade to 22.04 which appeared to load (there were 2 or 3 warnings) did not work.

When I start various apps (chrome, VLC, nomacs) the opened window is black. Gradually more screen corruption occurs.

Nomacs says "unable to create a GL context"

Thunderbird, Libreoffice; Text editor ; File manager; scanner - all work fine.
