Faster network access from Ubuntu to a NAS, is caching possible?

I previously used Windows; my new computer will be on Ubuntu with an M.2 NVME bootable. Also moving most of my files over to two NAS: one QNAP and one TrueNAS. I will access them over 1Gb Ethernet.

I fear the access to my files and directories will be quite slow over Ethernet, at least compared to accessing them directly from the local M.2 NVME. Could this be improved with some form of network ac ...

Is it possible to recover Snap Firefox secret profile data after removing the Snap?
in flag

I am running Firefox on Ubuntu 22.04.

When I installed Ubuntu 22.04, I copied a pre-existing home folder from an Ubuntu 20.04 installation. This included ~/.mozilla/firefox/ and the Firefox profiles it contained from the 20.04 system.

A major difference between Firefox between Ubuntu 20.04 and 22.04 is that on the old 20.04 system, Firefox was a normal executable located at /usr/bin/firefox, while on 2 ...

Sound or streaming issue while on console

If I have music playing in Ubuntu Mate 22.04 (same issue in 18.04), it stops playing several seconds after moving to tty1-6. This happens with any music streaming on a browser (youtube, pandora, etc) but not with music playing from the hard drive like via mpv. Seems to play out its buffer and then halt. My guess is the browser is decided to be out of use and so streaming is deprioritized. Is there a way ...

I am unable to open the terminal

I'm running Ubuntu on VirtualBox on a Windows 10 host. The terminal doesn't open. I clicked on it, tried the shortcut, and opened from a file. Nothing works. The little loading circle spins for ~10 seconds and then the terminal tab disappears.

I've tried it on Ubuntu 22.04.1, and now 22.10. However, both behaved the same.

Why does "Save" not have keyboard control? (Google Chrome on Ubuntu 22.04.1)
br flag

I'm using Google Chrome on Ubuntu 22.04.1. When I save a page (or use ctrl-s), the resulting save dialogue is full page. I am unable to use keyboard navigation. E.g., I cannot use esc or enter to close the dialogue. I am able to do an esc/enter via a touch-pad click, so in principle the dialogue works. This has been like this since the upgrade to 22.04.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
