How to mount MTP like a drive in /dev?
fr flag

I am trying to recover some files on my android device, but without success. So I would like to try tools like photorec, but they need a physically mounted device. Or rather, for the moment photorec makes me recover files only from /dev/sdx, so I need to mount the mtp device like this. For now I have tried this solution here: How to mount Smartphone to recover files but jmtpfs gives me an error.

Gnome brightness slider not working (Ubuntu 20:04.3 LTS)
id flag

The slider on top right for brightness does not work but volume and microphone sliders do work. As a temporary workaround, xrandr can set brightness and a shell script is about as convenient as using the slider. The script is below and should be used as ./brightness.sh 0.5 where 0.5 is the brightness you want to set it to. 1 is maximum and 0 is minimum.

#!/bin/bash

Windows 10 VM guest OS boots to a blue screen after restarting the host

I used Ubuntu 20.04 as host and create a Windows 10 VM (21H1) in KVM (via the GUI). In the VM I pass my graphics card (RTX2070) and the whole group via PCI passthrough, which works thanks to various guides.

After I installed updates/drivers in the VM, the graka is also recognized. I can also install programs or restart the VM without any problems, but as soon as I restart the host (with the VM sw ...

I have MacBookAir 3,2 (2010) that works surprisingly well with Ubuntu 21.04 (GNOME), when its NVidia driver is correctly enabled.

The problem comes when controlling the screen brightness. The default hotkeys work, xbacklight and nvidia-settings -a BacklightBrightness=## both work, but the brightness setting set through any of these means does not persist between reboots or shutdowns.

Ubuntu 18.04 dual-boot - windows 10 upgrade has trashed uefi boot entries

These 2 systems have co-existed since late 2014 (Windows was 8 back then, ubuntu can't remember 14?)

Unfortunately, the latest window update appears to have trashed the boot loader - the computer boots straight into Windows, when I "advanced restart" and go into the BIOS the ubuntu partitions can no longer be seen.

I can see them if i use bcdedit in windows, and a Ubuntu install usb also finds them. ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
