ar flag

I have a Intel® Core™ i5-4590 CPU which has an integrated Intel® HD Graphics 4600 (HSW GT2) GPU and I have installed Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS with it.

My monitor resolution is 1920x1080 but Ubuntu just show me 1024x768 and 800x600 resolutions.

So I searched for solution and due to this answer I do as follow:

  1. cvt 1920 1080

  2. sudo xrandr --newmode "1920x1080_60.00" 173.00 1920 2048 2248 2576 1080 108 ...

Ubuntu 20.04.2.0 LTS black bar across screen along bottom hides active content
sk flag

I installed Ubuntu 20.04.2.0 LTS with no issues and everything works fine except for one problem. There is a black bar across that bottom that hides everything behind it. For example, if I put the tool bar along the bottom, I can't see the tool bar, but the tool bar is still active because I can click in the right places and get full functionality.

The reported screen resolution matches my moni ...

Microphone grabs game audio and "mixes" it with my voice drowning it out. no speakers, using headset

Using 20.04 and it seems it started to happen recently. I have no speakers so the game sound should not have been picked up via the microphone. But if I use mumble or record while playing the game sound is mixed with my voice. It is also higher volume so it drowns me out.

I'd like the microphone just to pick what I say to it, not what is generated by the system...

After about a minute of watching any youtube video on either Chrome or Firefox the computer becomes completely unresponsive, screen is stuck, audio is looping the last second, the computer does not even register headphones being plugged into the 3.5mm jack. This is a problem that seems to have come out of the blue as I have not made any hardware or software changes, the only things the machine was used  ...

Broken inodes on Ubuntu 18.04 due to software bug or degrading hardware?
in flag

Since a week or so I encounter spontaneous errors like system freeze of the desktop or the system only boots into recovery mode and complains about broken inodes. Once my root-partition was even mounted read-only because of these errors. This appears to me that my SDD is degrading though all SMART parameters are fine. The SSD in this Fujitsu laptop is 8 years old so I think it is natural that it reached ...

Since there is no more Banshee available on Ubuntu installations I am trying to make a feature work that I loved about Banshee. That gave the opportunity to intervene with the random sele ...

20.04 on a Lenovo X1 carbon, if it matters

I have a Cam Link 4K USB HDMI adapter, the purpose of which is to connect the HDMI output of a camera to a USB input. I have managed to get it working in the past. However, I had to reboot today, and now, though I can get the device to work with cheese, it does not work with any of the meeting applications I use (zoom and ringcentral).

How to disable annoying folder highlighting at mouseover (hovering)

Concerning the Ubuntu Gnome Desktop and folder highlighting: when I move my mouse pointer across a folder and then in an application window close to that folder - the folder stays highlighted, although I am no longer over that folder. This annoys me because it does not work right in my opinion, at times the desktop looks quite chaotic and several folders are highlighted.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
