Ubuntu_Documents.zip is not being copied to Local_Backup_Dir?

/home/andy/Backup/Ubuntu_Mate_20.04/ does exist.

Other files are being copied to that directory.

Can someone offer some things I can check?

Install ghex 43 on Ubuntu 20.04

I am running an Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS Virtual machine and I would like to install the newer version of ghex on it (version 43.0). However, I only seem able to install version 4.19.4-1.

Is it possible to install the newer version of ghex, without having to install the newer version of Ubuntu that has GNOME 43?

If I use X11 VNC server (Lubuntu 20.04 host PC) and RealVNC viewer (Lubuntu 20.04 viewer PC) over my local network, how easily could a hacker or snoop access my computers, see my browser data, etc? The connection would be password protected but not encrypted.

Strange battery charging behaviour

Long story short, I'm trying to enable NOPASSWD for some user by creataing a file called user inside /etc/sudoers.d/ folder.

The file has the right permissions 0440 and the content seems alright user ALL=(ALL:ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL

When I run visudo -c to check whether or not everything is alright, it doesn't even print the files inside suoders.d.

It always says :

/etc/sudoers: parsed OK
/etc/sudoers.d/ ...

Cant boot up. dell_smm_hwmon: unable to get SMM Dell signature

Using XPS 9720 and installed a fresh ubuntu 22.04 LTS over windows. Everything was going fine until i rebooted the system.

Now it doesnt boot and shows me the message:

dell_smm_hwmon: unable to get SMM Dell signature

EDIT: 22.04 not 20.04

To provide even more details: this install is done on a new SSD (slot1) and the stock SSD (moved to slot2) is wiped

Security Certs for multiple domains in postfix

In postfix when configuring for multiple domains do I need the following lines in /etc/postfix/main.cf for each domain or something else? I already have certs for the domains in question from letsencrypt.

How to solve LDAP user getting login loop when trying to login? (No Xauthority file)

As the title says, an LDAP user is trying to login to a machine, and after entering their password, is sent back to the main screen. A number of guides online have told me to change the permissions on the Xauthority file, which doesn't exist. We do however have a file called .ICEauthority, however changing permissions on this file makes 0 difference.

How can I get full (2560x1440) resolution on my external display?

I am using AOC Q3279VWF as a monitor, but am only able to reach 1920x1080 resolution. I would like to achieve the full 2560x1440 resolution of the monitor. This is listed as an option in the display settings as well as with xrandr, but the screen goes black when I switch to this mode.

Unable to change the resolution of my built-in display

I can't change my built-in display's resolution under Settings -> Displays. I used to see a drop-down menu that allowed me to lower the resolution but it's gone since I reinstalled Ubuntu 22.04.

However, I am able to change the resolution to 1920-1200 by running:

xrandr -s 1920x1200

The problem is that I usually connect my laptop to an external monitor and the above code does not work when that happ ...

Snap thinks snap-store directory is not a directory

Running Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. I try to launch the Software app, but it never comes up. In /var/log/syslog I find: "snap-store_ubuntu-software.desktop[17496]: cannot create user data directory: /home/steve/snap/snap-store/599: Not a directory"

However:

Syslog-ng sends same log twice

we have configured two custom log "pipelines" in folder /etc/syslog-ng/conf.d/something.conf, filtered by host filter.
